What an Ethicality certification means - and what it doesn't.
If a firm has shown you the Ethicality Badge, this page explains what was assessed, how it was decided, how long it lasts, and how to check it for yourself.
What was checked
- The organization has simple written rules for AI use that its people can access.
- Employees use approved AI tools and keep confidential information out of public or unapproved tools.
- Clients, customers, and staff are told when AI meaningfully contributes to work or an interaction.
- A person reviews material AI-assisted work before it reaches a client or customer.
- Important recommendations and decisions receive human approval before action is taken.
- A person remains responsible for AI-assisted work and final decisions.
What was not
- Ethicality does not test or certify the AI systems themselves.
- Certification does not establish legal compliance, accreditation, or government approval.
- Certification reflects the evidence assessed at the time. It does not guarantee the quality of every future piece of work or that nothing will go wrong.
How it was decided
Ethicality uses an AI-assisted assessment system to review the evidence submitted against each applicable EAUS requirement. A named certification officer then checks the findings and supporting evidence and makes the final decision.
AI assists. A person decides. No certificate can be issued automatically.
How long it lasts
One year from the date of issue. It is maintained by a five-minute annual re-attestation against the same fifteen statements. If the organization stops materially meeting the standard, it must tell us. If it lapses, is suspended or is withdrawn, the badge license ends and the badge must come down within ten business days.
How to verify it
Every badge must link to the organization's public registry entry. Follow the link, or search the registry by name. The entry shows the certificate number, scope, issue and expiry dates, current status, and the officer who signed it. No login, no request to us.

A badge with no registry link, on an entity or scope other than the one certified, altered or recoloured, or presented as legal compliance or accreditation, is misuse. Tell us and we will look into it; misuse can lead to suspension or withdrawal.
