Non-Conformity Classification
Definitions and remediation timelines for minor, major, and critical findings.
1. Minor
Isolated procedural gap with no demonstrated harm and a clear remediation path. Remediation due within 90 days. Does not block certification.
2. Major
Systemic procedural gap, or a control failure with credible potential for harm, or repeated minor findings against the same control. Remediation due within 30 days; interim mitigations required. Certification conditional on accepted remediation plan.
3. Critical
Demonstrated harm; deception of assessors; deliberate concealment of evidence; failure of a control protecting life, safety, fundamental rights, or systemic stability. Certification withheld or withdrawn; public disclosure within 10 business days.
4. Worked examples
Each category includes worked examples published in the determination handbook so that classifications are reproducible across assessors and engagements.
5. Appeal
Applicants may appeal a classification to a panel independent of the original certification team within 15 business days.
